9-1-1: Lone Star: Liv Tyler joins Rob Lowe in spin-off series

911 season 2

The upcoming 9-1-1: Lone Star series is coming your way in 2020, and CarterMatt has some news now on who will be one of the leads of the new show!

Following the news from months ago that Rob Lowe is set to headline the series (which will be set in Austin) Deadline reports that Lord of the Rings / The Leftovers alum Liv Tyler is going to serve as one of the other leads. Her role is that of Chief Paramedic Michelle Blake, someone described as “a little rock ‘n’ roll, sometimes a bad girl but always boss. Equal parts compassionate and ruthless, Michelle is brilliant and wry, and the only one who can match wits with Owen in the station, where she often will put him in his place. While always on point at work, Michelle has a obsession she struggles to control: finding out what happened to her little sister Iris, who disappeared two years ago. She’ll stop at nothing to discover the truth, even if it means burning her own life down.”

Does this sound like a compelling character? One of the things that is interesting about her on the surface is that in addition to her being great at her job, there is that sort of mystery about her behind-the-scenes, as well. This is the sort of thing that 9-1-1: Lone Star could keep as a central part of its story for many years on end. We’ll go ahead and tell you now that this doesn’t feel like the sort of story that the show is going to resolve at the end of the first season. It feels more like the sort of thing that could play out over the course of a big stretch of time … if the spin-off gets to have that kind of run.

At the moment, it feels easy to expect big things from this new show, and for a wide array of different reasons. For starters, we’re talking about a series that already has a dedicated following on the original show. Beyond that, we’re also talking about one that has great talent and a premise that is a little bit tried-and-true. There was a time when we didn’t see all that much in the way of first responder shows on the air but that has changed. Thank Chicago Fire for opening the door once more.
