9-1-1 season 3 spoilers: Big Athena origin story episode coming

Just in case you were wondering when 9-1-1 was going to give you an Athena flashback story in season 3, we come bearing that info within!

According to a new report via TVLine, you are going to see Angela Bassett’s character get a dramatic spotlight for the upcoming seventh episode of the season, one that carries with it the title of “Athena Begins.” This satisfies the show’s tradition of titling some of the big flashback episodes this way — we’ve seen that for other big episodes focusing on Hen and also Chimney. This will give us a chance to see a different side of Athena, one where she was just starting up as a cop back in the late 1980’s. The differences between being a cop then and now are night-and-day.

Executive producer Tim Minear adds to the website that this episode is not just going to be about her past — she will be taking on a story within the present, as well, that is a mystery that has gone on for thirty years. While it’s unclear if it can be traced back to her early days as a cop, she may need to rely on some of those early instincts in order to get what she wants to out of that story.

Overall, our assumption for season 3 is that Athena’s story is going to be as fascinating and as deeply layered as they come. We know that she and Bobby are now in a stronger place in their romantic relationship, but what does that look like? What can we expect when it comes to their future? Their relationship can be spotlighted in a different way, but at the same time, nobody can forget that the work still has to go on. These are people who have the tough job of trying to save lives by any means necessary.

We’ll have a chance to ultimately see what the future holds when the 9-1-1 season 3 premiere airs in a few weeks on Fox. We would imagine that there will be another flashback story, as well, coming your way.
