Grand Hotel season 2 renewal odds: Can we expect more at ABC?
At the moment, the future of the series hasn’t been solidified one way or another — and we think that this is a show that ABC could end up spending some time figuring out one way or another.
Let’s start out with the good news as we look towards the future of the series — its numbers have been reasonably solid for a while. Over the past month and a half, the series is drawing repeatedly around a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and over 2.4 million live viewers. We’re not going to pretend that these are the greatest numbers in the known world — yet, at the same time, they’re solid. It’s a good enough performance to make us think that when you combine DVR figures, there is some more burn that could come out of this show next year.
What else does Grand Hotel have going for it? Think in terms of a fun, lighthearted tone, a good cast, and the right combination of humor and drama. ABC also does need to figure out some sort of consistent programming for the summer, given that they’re having a hard time really finding it elsewhere. Think of things in this sense: They are probably going to cancel Reef Break and, save for The Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise and game shows, they don’t have too much else.
One thing that we definitely think could help the renewal odds for Grand Hotel? Think in terms of a big cliffhanger, the sort that would get people talking and debating for months on end. There is a good chance that the show will have that, and we say that for mostly one reason — we know that this is the sort of show that lives and dies by the twists. We have an easy time imagining a big cliffhanger is coming.
