Sherlock, Doctor Who alumni’s Dracula series adds some more names
We’ve known for a while that the duo have something up their sleeve and, suffice it to say, it looks pretty cool. Dracula is an adaptation of a property that speaks for itself, one of the most well-known in literary history. They already have their star in Claes Bang (The Affair season 5), and we’re getting more details today about the remainder of the cast.
According to a report from Deadline, Lyndsey Marshal (The League of Gentlemen), Chanel Cresswell (This Is England), Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game), Lydia West (Years & Years), Paul Brennen (Happy Valley), Sarah Niles (Catastrophe), Sofia Oxenham (Poldark), John McCrea (God’s Own Country), Phil Dunster (Humans) and newcomer Millicent Wong are going to be a part of the game moving forward. John Heffernan, Joanna Scanlan, Dolly Wells, Sacha Dhawan, Jonathan Aris, Morfydd Clark and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett are also a part of what is quite the large cast.
Will this show turn out to be a hit? We’re hoping so given the talent involved — also, the photo above of Bang as Dracula definitely makes quite the impression! He seems well-suited for the role and we just hope that there is something that Gatiss and Moffat are able to bring that is different from what we’ve seen before. This is our great concern entering this project — there have been about a thousand different vampire-related pieces of entertainment over the past several years and they all sort of blend together. It’s also been a few years since any of them have brought a new sense of personality to the genre. We want to explore more of the psychology of a character like Dracula and what drives him, in addition to seeing a few surprise twists and turns along the way when it comes to the story.
This Dracula project will be arriving on BBC One in the UK and then Netflix in other parts of the world. We’ll have more on the project before long…
