Game of Thrones season 8 episode 4 theories + Kit Harington’s tease
When you look at the state of things in Winterfell, there is obviously a reason for tremendous celebration in that the Night King is apparently gone, and Westeros is saved — at least for the time being. Yet, there’s still that larger issue at hand via Cersei Lannister. She’s been waiting all this time for the battle north of King’s Landing to happen and see who’s still left standing at the end of it to then decide how to proceed to protect her claim. She can hit the good guys when they are vulnerable and use their weakness to get precisely what she wants — an opportunity to seize control of all of the Seven Kingdoms. With her, it’s mostly a matter of when the chaos is going to begin rather than if. Obviously, there are only three more episodes — not a whole lot of time for her to sit around and complain about the lack of elephants.
For Kit Harington, this episode seems to have been a thrill to shoot. We imagine that part of that was due to him being able to get away from the darkness of the episode before (which will be a relief for a lot of us out there that couldn’t see a darn thing), but also because of the specific tone — and the anxiety of what was to come. For more, check out what he had to say via Entertainment Weekly:
“One of my favorite episodes is 4 because the characters have seemingly got what they needed … The world is safe now. They’re celebrating and saying goodbye to lost friends. But as an audience you’re going, ‘This is only episode 4, something’s going to happen.’ And that’s the cool thing because I think the characters are aware of this as well. There’s something twisted and uncomfortable about it. It’s so Shakespearian.”

Where will the next battle be?
Is it possible that we could have another Battle of Winterfell, and that Cersei’s forces could move north to face them there? That feels like a possibility since in theory, Jon, Daenerys, and their forces would be weaken there and there wouldn’t be enough time for them to rebuild from the destruction of the white walkers. The sooner Cersei closes in, the more vulnerable they would be. However, you can also make the argument that Daenerys is going to push her soldiers to try and finish the fight by going right at King’s Landing as soon as possible. Have their celebration, relax for a few days, and then head down to the Iron Throne and try to seize that once and for all.
There are still questions — including whether or not the North will ever fully except being under the rule of another (Sansa has made it pretty clear to Daenerys that she’s not having it) — but right now, everyone should at least breathe a sigh of relief. Sansa may be reluctant to bend the knee to someone she doesn’t know that well, but she’s smart and savvy enough to realize that another war, plus whatever happens with Cersei, is not in the best interest of anyone.
