Game of Thrones spin-offs: Kit Harington has zero interest
Speaking in a new interview via the BBC, the actor responded with “not on your life” when asked if he had any interest in moving forward and being Jon Snow once more — regardless of whatever happens in the series finale. He went on to explain that further by describing why he’s so intent on moving on from the end of the series:
“If, like me, you go all the way back to the pilot of Game of Thrones, that’s almost 10 years of your life … That’s really unusual in an actor’s career. It was a huge, emotional upheaval leaving that family.”
If you think about that, for some actors it can be emotionally challenging to dive back into a world after saying goodbye and having some element of closure to it. Beyond just that, there’s probably also a desire to do some different things so that you feel like you are continuously being challenged. Harington has done some other work already, both with HBO and also overseas on Gunpowder, and we imagine more is going to come his way. One of the benefits that comes from doing a series like this is that it does greatly reduce whatever sort of sense of urgency you may have otherwise had. You can take a step back, plan out some of your options a little bit more, and then figure out the best way forward. There is no sense of immediately hurry — which, ironically, has to be the motto for most Game of Thrones fans in general at the moment given how long so many of us have been waiting to see new episodes arrive.
At present, it does feel like the final season is premiering in April — following that, our current expectation is that there will be a chance to see the spin-off premiere at some point down the line. As of right now, the earliest we envision it is 2020 since it’s hard to imagine HBO putting both the final season and a brand-new show on the air in the same year. They probably want to review the first episode and take their time to make some necessary changes before figuring out precisely where they want to go from there.
