Hawaii Five-0 season 9: Alex O’Loughlin will direct again

Hawaii Five-0

One season removed from his first gig as director, it looks like Alex O’Loughlin is stepping into the job again on Hawaii Five-0 season 9.

In a response to a new post on Twitter, show executive producer Peter M. Lenkov confirmed that Alex will direct again on the show. Given that they don’t have any seasons ordered at the moment beyond the current one, the simple assumption that you can draw here is that we’re going to see O’Loughlin back in the saddle again for an episode at some point this season. This is exciting mostly because it’s often fun to see actors on this show take on multiple roles. Last season, Alex was really a jack of all trades — not only did he star as Steve McGarrett and direct an episode, but also had a Story By credit for an installment late in the season. When you have actors this involved in production, it’s a pretty clear sign that you’ve got a good thing going.

One of the things that we think could be especially appealing about having Alex as a director again is that it enables him to work hands-on with some actors who he knows implicitly based on the years together. It you want to make his episode one that is very personal and focused on a character like a Danny or a Junior or a Grover, we certainly endorse that idea.

As of right now, the series is filming the third episode of season 9 — they are shooting somewhat out of order, which is often done for scheduling or production reasons. given that the show doesn’t premiere until Friday, September 28, there are plenty of opportunities to catch back up on the filming that they haven’t done for the premiere.
