Shadowhunters season 3 finale: Possible returning characters!

In today’s Save Shadowhunters update, we’re talking about possible returns to the series and more based on the latest social-media traffic. While you can always wonder about when certain photos were taken to accompany tweets / Instagram posts (the Harry Shum Jr. image yesterday is a good example of that), it’s the timing of the message sometimes that matters most.

So could we be seeing more of Lorenzo Rey and also Asmodeus in the final episodes of season 3? The latest social-media posts do make you wonder about this, especially as 3×21 and 3×22 have just started production in Toronto. Given Lorenzo’s presence on the show so far this season, it does make sense that he would continue be around through at least the end of the season. (Javier’s a busy guy, so it’d be great if there was some more room in his schedule for another gig.) The story of Asmodeus, meanwhile, really just feels like it is just beginning through the lens of what we’ve seen on the show. We imagine that this role is going to be so much more pronounced starting with 3×11, which should premiere on Freeform at some point in the new year.

When thinking about some of these stories with #SaveShadowhunters in mind, one of the most-appealing things about these sort of updates is that they give you a little more reminders that the cast loves this show as much as many of the viewers do. If they were treated it as just a job, they wouldn’t discuss it anywhere near as much at this point. Freeform has technically canceled it, and with that they could just bide their time and move on to the next thing. They’re not doing that. They are still sharing things about it on social media and, beyond that, still attending conventions. While we understand that they do profit from the latter, it’s still an enormous travel / scheduling commitment for all of them and certainly not something they need to do.

Hopefully, we’ll continue to get updates throughout filming the next few weeks; it’s probably going to get more emotional as time goes along, especially if there isn’t much news about Shadowhunters and its season 4 prospects revealed along the way.
