The Originals season 5 episode 3 will be a Daniel Gillies spotlight hour

Just in case you needed another reason to be excited about The Originals season 5 episode 3, here it is: This installment should prove to be a really big one for Daniel Gillies as Elijah. You will get a chance to learn over the course of this episode more of what happened to him following Marcel erasing his memory, and in some ways this could be the show playing a bit of connect-the-dots between where he was and where he ends up in the present of the series. That’s exciting for a number of different reasons, most notably how impressionable the character may be without his memory. This is a chance for some others to impart some wisdom upon him, which in turn leads to Antoinette looking upon him as a vessel.

WHO IS ELIJAH MIKAELSON? – In the immediate aftermath of having his memory erased by Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) awakens to find himself in the middle of nowhere and without a clue as to who he is. Unable to control his instinctive vampire ways, Elijah encounters Antoinette (guest star Jaime Murray), a beautiful and free-spirited vampire, who helps him navigate his new life. However, a run-in with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) threatens to destroy the peace he’s finally found. Joseph Morgan directed the episode written by K.C. Perry & Michelle Paradise (#503). Original airdate 5/2/2018.

We’re certainly excited for any opportunity to get a Daniel Gillies showcase, and we have to imagine that what’s so exciting for this as a final-season story for him is the opportunity to take on what is in so many ways a completely different character. While the soul for Elijah may still be very much intact somewhere deep down, superficially this is far from the same guy. Eventually, we imagine that the old version of the character could come back, but why not relish in what we’re getting with Elijah until then?
