The Originals season 5 moved to Wednesdays; Life Sentence pushed to Fridays
Let’s start with The Originals season 5, which is being moved up to Wednesday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. This means that the show is no longer going to be airing on Fridays — that’s great when it comes to improving the series’ ratings, especially since it is coming on the air after Riverdale season 2. Granted, it doesn’t matter all that much given that The Originals is in its final season and Riverdale has been way down in the ratings in the second half of the season. The only potential aid here could come via the potential Hope spin-off, which could very well use some ratings momentum as a possible proof-of-concept.
Here is the bad news — the Lucy Hale dramedy Life Sentence, which hit a horrific 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic this week, is going to air one more episode on Wednesdays before being shifted over to Fridays. There, it will air starting on April 27 for the remainder of the season. This decision is clearly one that was made with likely cancellation in mind; we’re still surprised in some ways that Life Sentence didn’t work given that it features such a prominent star in Lucy Hale front and center. It may have been the subject matter (few people like to think about cancer while they are trying to unwind with their TV’s), or it could just be that much of Hale’s fame at the moment is tied to playing Aria on Pretty Little Liars. CarterMatt is sure that she’ll find another show and hopefully get another crack at getting her next big hit.
With the new premiere dates in mind, there could be a few different changes that happen elsewhere on the schedule. The finale for Jane the Virgin, for example, is now set to air on April 20. Meanwhile, Dynasty is going to wrap up (likely for the series) on May 11.
