FX, Donald Glover no longer working on animated Deadpool series
In a statement via Deadline, the network is not moving forward with their previously-planned project, which was set to be a collaboration between the network, Marvel, and Atlanta executive producers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover:
“Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series … FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.”
There were obviously at some points plenty of reasons to have enthusiasm for this project, starting just with the fact that this marked an opportunity for the network to have one of the most-popular comic-book franchises featured on the small screen. It also was stemming from some of the best creative minds out there and the same animation studio that worked on Archer. In some ways, this was almost an idea so brilliant that it felt almost like a surefire hit … but in reality, there are few things in this world that are a sure thing. A lot of them take the right collaboration to happen and this just wasn’t the right mix.
The thing that we’re mostly bummed out about here is that this was Donald Glover getting a chance to do some sort of work on a superhero project — he for a long time lobbied to be Spider-Man earlier on his career, so getting to write a Deadpool series had to be at least pretty close to this dream becoming a reality.
