Martin Freeman happy for Sherlock season 5 hiatus to avoid pressure

Sherlock season 4

When you think just in terms of sheer box-office success, there are few other actors out there who have experienced quite what Martin Freeman has. We’re speaking of a man who did the Hobbit movie franchise, and then beyond that is also in Black Panther and before that Captain America: Civil War. He knows what it means to be successful, but also understands that it’s important to do different things and not rush something coming out.

Apparently, these are some of the reasons why Freeman is happy that Sherlock season 5 is not going to be on the docket for at least a little while. The actor recent spoke per Cinema Blend on the subject, making it clear that it’s nice to be able to take a break and avoid some of the stress of putting out one season after the next so quickly:

But speaking for myself, I’d quite like to take a break from that for a while. Just that sort of…clamor. Which is lovely, cause people like your show, but it can feel quite pressured actually. Know what I mean? You’ve got obviously to surprise them, but if you surprise them too much they’ll hate you for it. It’s a tricky one. It’s a hard one, because there is so much expectation on that show, more than anything I’ve ever done. I’m happy to give it a rest for a while certainly.

It’s rather interesting in some ways that Freeman could have been a part of something like The Hobbit, and yet somehow still feels more pressure for playing John Watson. It’s really just another reminder as to the passion that Sherlock fans have for this series, coupled with how badly they want to get more of the story. With The Hobbit, there is already a feeling of completion. While we do think that Sherlock season 4 had a fine ending, the clamoring for more has not stopped and we know that the producers are still interested in doing more in the future. It may just not be for a little while still.
