Outlander season 4 production update: Block 3 officially begins!
If so, we come bearing good news: Outlander season 4 production is underway once more in Scotland! To be specific, today was the first read-through of block 3, which contains episode 5 and 6.
In a new post on Twitter, series star Sam Heughan confirmed this news with the fun message and photo below. Balfe will catch up on production when she returns to Scotland; obviously, we don’t think anyone was altogether upset with her absence given that she was representing the series in fantastic fashion in Los Angeles. While she may not have won the award for Actress in a Drama Series, she had incredible support from the fans and even scored some screen time during the E! red carpet pre-show. There is a lot to be happy about with her appearance and we hope that it leads to some promotion for Outlander down the line.
For those who have not heard previously, Outlander season 4 is being divided up into six production blocks of two episodes, with the finale serving as a final block on its own. This is useful for filming schedules, as well as determining when there are certain breaks in the action. For example, it made sense to finish up block 2 before the holidays so that everyone could dive back into something new and fresh in the new year. As of right now it’s taking a little bit more than a month to get through each block, but this could change down the road based on the sort of work that is being done. Different locations or types of scenes, for example, could take a little bit more time. Filming should be done near the end of the spring or early summer, so we’ll see where some of the filming blocks fit in there.
The most important thing for you to know at the moment is that Outlander season 4 production is now back in action, and that the Starz series is charting along very nicely to premiere later this year. Obviously, the moment that there is more to report on that front, we’ll have the info for you here. (Hopefully, we’ll also have some news on a season 5 renewal — we really wanted to get news on that before the holidays.)
