Why Sam Heughan isn’t joining Caitriona Balfe at the 2018 Golden Globes; Outlander Weekly Roundup
Is Sam Heughan at the 2018 Golden Globes this year alongside Caitriona? While he’s been there in the past as support and to promote the show, he is missing in action this time around.
In a new post on Twitter (see below), Heughan confirmed the rather-unfortunate news that he will be cheering her on from Scotland this time around. He had attended some of the pre-show parties in Los Angeles, but was not able to stick around for the show itself. Outlander filming is starting back up shortly, so it does make some sense as to why he is unable to attend. Sometimes, the work does have to come first! Hopefully, the work that Sam, Caitriona, and the rest of the cast are putting in leads to them getting recognized even more in the future.
Balfe will of course be a great ambassador for Outlander moving into the show tonight; if there are some notable moments featuring her either before or during the show CarterMatt will have that information for you here.

Trailer speculation – Even though there’s footage currently in the can, now is not necessarily the right time to release an official trailer.
Would Outlander on Netflix provide a ratings boost? – There is an interesting precedent for it due to the success of Shameless, another premium cable series that has made the jump over there.
Finally, our latest Outlander character questions piece – This time, the focus is on none other than Lord John Grey!

Hi Jessica and Matt-I’m only addressing the Netflix question. Having watched 3 seasons multiple times and having read OL books since the beginning changing to Netflix would not change the discontent. 1. Season 1 was very good,the writing good except some of the changes but that’s adaptions.Did you see that Anne Kinney won another award? Did you know that Toni G per a tweet only reads one book at a time? and I question if the “nebw” writers have read the whole series. The more you change the book the more you run into problems 3. Sam Heughan was not supported by Starz, Sony, or EP,EP. writers, for Golden Globe and yet his acting, esp in E 1,4,6. Sam said once that “He was scared to get fired” and I think truth in that.There is conflict somewhere.Do you notice that tweets to DG are rare? Is it a control issue? 4. Ron Moore’s cont desire to bring back, make room for T Menzies. Black Jack is never in any book through book eight, thoughts of him,a letter but not him.
Finally, Voyager was my favorite book in the series so far. My book fell apart before the series started. I was even very upset regarding how Matt Roberts had his own agenda, and stated it, for 12, 13.Per Rotten Tomatoes, ep 13 critic rating was 70%
So Netflix might help for non-book readers but not for book readers.

Hi Jan, Matt and I are really glad that you feel safe here to talk about Outlander (and any other shows you watch). We really do try to keep our site and comments section a place where people feel that they can express themselves in an environment that is fairly free of trolling. We were thinking that Netflix might be a great way to bring in an even bigger audience and just widen it’s reach to people who may not have Starz and may not want to pay for Starz without knowing if they will like the series or not (although it’s hard to imagine someone not liking Outlander!). The more non-book readers (like us) that can be drawn into the series will easily convert more people into book readers I feel. I know it’s on my list of books to read, I just haven’t as much time to read as I used to since starting up CarterMatt. – Jess

More like Sam is out of the picture to give Cait her time to shine in her own right. He’s a very nice guy who would not want to take away any of the spotlight from Cait as I am sure the nomination is important to her and the show. Best of luck to Cait, most assuredly, but it is truly disheartening for the fans that Sam was not also nominated.
