Game of Thrones series finale: Why Kit Harington feels the timing is right

The Game of Thrones series finale is going to be here in either late 2018 or early 2019, and Kit Harington’s at the center of it.

Ultimately, it really is as it should be. Harington’s Jon Snow is a focal point of the story and almost the entire future of many heroes is dependent on him. He is the conduit to the north, he has a lot of power, and his relationship with Daenerys is her bridge to most of Westeros at this point. (There could be trouble there because of their secret lineage.)

There is a tremendous amount of story for Game of Thrones to touch on before season 8 closes, and it’s going to be a challenge given that there are only six episodes left. Nonetheless, Harington still feels like had the show gone on any longer, it would’ve lasted far past its due. He explains more in a new interview with The Guardian, one where he is by and large promoting his Gunpowder project:

“I wouldn’t have wanted to go on for another year, but if it had finished last year, it wouldn’t have felt long enough. Maybe the most special year was the first. We weren’t being recognized in the street, we didn’t know what we were doing, we were having a great time.”

There won’t be anything like the first season because of the trajectory that it sent Harington on as an actor. He went from a relative unknown to many to a household name, and now Jon Snow is arguably up there with Daenerys and Tyrion Lannister as one of the most recognizable characters on the show. The lucky thing for him is that if he cuts his famous hair and grows a beard, he’s got a good shot of being unrecognized at some airports and other parts of the world.

While we do think we would’ve enjoyed two more seasons at CarterMatt, we do see where Kit is coming from. One of the things that aided Game of Thrones tremendously this year was the knowledge that it would be ending before too long. That gave the viewership an immediacy that maybe they would not have had otherwise.

What do you want to see with Kit Harington on Game of Thrones season 8?
