Marc Rissmann – Game of Thrones season 8 casting rumors surface

Marc Rissmann

Is Marc Rissmann of Into the Badlands joining Game of Thrones season 8 as Harry Strickland? Based on some rumors it’s possible.

For the time being, here is what we know. According to some of the sleuths over at Watchers on the Wall, Rissmann has been announced per a theatrical agency website to be appearing on the show. It’s a little surprising that we’re ever getting new characters at all during the final season, given mostly the fact that there is so little time and that doesn’t exactly lend itself towards there being any more people turning up.

Nonetheless, the Harry Strickland character is one that does actually have a little bit of groundwork within the George R.R. Martin source material. This character is a head of a mercenary group known as the Golden Company, and this in turn is one that was mentioned by Cersei Lannister at the end of season 7. Harry Strickland, for the record, may be the most realistic name in the history of Game of Thrones. It actually sounds a little bit more like someone you would hire to do your accounting than someone you want taking part in some epic battles.

Given that he has appeared on Into the Badlands, one of the pluses that does come out of Rissmann’s casting is that you are getting on Game of Thrones someone who knows a thing or two about quality fight scenes ahead of time. You cannot understate the importance of that when it comes to making scenes feel authentic, though we’re sure that the producers of the show would find a way to do that even if he wasn’t around. They just know in general how important this is to the show’s success.

If you have not heard…

Game of Thrones season 8 filming is underway right now in Northern Ireland and it will stay that way between now and as late as next summer. Meanwhile, the premiere date for the final season is slated to be at some point in either late 2018 or early 2019, more than likely the latter. There are only six episodes of the show, but the reason why it is taking so much longer for episodes is because A) these are all extended and B) the show cannot just segment off the cast to some various locations as they once could. There is much more of an awareness now that the majority of the cast is going to be around each other at the same time.
