The Last Ship season 4 finale spoilers: Chandler lays it on the line

The Last Ship season 4 finale is coming aboard TNT next week, and it’s doing so as a rather jam-packed event. Much like there were two hours to kick off the show earlier this summer there are two hours closing it off. This show does have a cinematic feel to it, so we can’t say we’re altogether upset with having the season’s run convinced in a package like this. Also, it keeps the show from having to air against as much of the fall season as it probably would have otherwise.

In many ways, we think it’s more important than ever now for The Last Ship to avoid some of this competition when you think about the uncertain future that it’s facing. It needs to improve its ratings enough to convince TNT to potentially reverse course; while season 5 has not been confirmed 100% as the show’s last, it looks as though actors are being given freedom to explore other options. We also don’t think a recent Instagram post from one of the show’s cast members was made without any knowledge of the likely sentiment behind the scenes.

Also, remember that the season 5 finale won’t have a cliffhanger ending — though we’re feeling pretty sure at the moment that the season 4 finale will, given that this was written with plenty of advanced warning that there will be another season of the show down the road.

Now, we’re ready to offer up a little more in the way of insight regarding what is coming up next.

4×09, “Detect, Deceive, Destroy” – “The crew of Nathan James faces a threat that will test the limits of their Naval tactics and strategies.”

4×10, “Endgame” – “Chandler (Eric Dane) confronts his enemy – and his personal demons – in a final showdown, with the fate of humanity on the line.”

These synopses don’t exactly give you a whole lot of insight regarding some of the stories coming up, but we do like to think of them as a clear reminder that, once more, Eric Dane’s character has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s been able to handle it okay enough over the series’ run, but sooner or later this could come crashing down on him.
