‘CSI’ season 15, episode 5 preempted due to NFL; no new episode tonight
Sad news for all of those looking forward to watching “CSI” tonight as a way to cap off their Sunday night. CBS has confirmed that there will be no new episode tonight due to NFL football running extremely late. See the post on Twitter HERE for evidence of that, and to take a moment to allow a frown to spread across your face. Nobody ever wants a schedule that is this confusing and last-minute!
The episode that was scheduled to air tonight will most likely air next week at the same time.
Should you be frustrated by this? Definitely, but it’s hardly the first time that this has happened. Last year, “The Mentalist” suffered the same fate, and it was right in the middle of the big Red John saga. Unfortunately, the reality here is that CBS pays a ton of money to broadcast all of these NFL games, and their ratings are astronomical, especially the ones that are extremely close and run into primetime. Therefore, there is almost zero incentive at all for CBS to change their ways, even if it comes at the expense of shows like “CSI.” We’ll just be impressed if it survives this season, given that both its Miami spin-off and “The Mentalist” have had a hard time going in this spot. While the latter was renewed, there was uncertainty for some time.
As for when you’ll actually get a chance to watch the show at its designated timeslot consistently, think along the lines of next year. Unfortunately, you are still going to only see 18 episodes this season thanks to an order reduction that was done to accommodate some other shows.
What do you think about this news, and about what happens on CBS Sunday nights the majority of the time? Share below.

Just so stupid to have moved a great show in a great time slot of Wed. night to follow football games on Sunday that ALWAYS run late. What on earth was CBS thinking?!!

Another thing that drive me nuts. Why show old repeats of Scandal and The Good Wife. Why not just show CSI after the News? I realize it’s late but most people have a way to record shows like TIVO. Run an announcement at the bottom of the screen so people know when CSI will be shown. I record most of the shows I watch because of the hours I work.

Why is CSI the one that gets booted instead of Good Wife? And if football is going to rule over everything else start it earlier so it doesn’t interfere with prime time!

It’s happening again tonight, for the 2nd week in a row. It’s almost 7 central, and the game is still on. The football broadcast just had the prime time preview, with CSI omitted. Looks like the death knell for the show.

I get the point that CBS didn’t air the episode so that the locals could get their newscasters home, but I don’t know why the episode is not made available On-Demand!

It aired in Canada…yay! On occasion, getting the Candian feed is beneficial ;)
Which also means we’ll probably just get a repeat next week ;)

Why does CBS put its best shows on Sunday night?? The Good Wife, CSI, The Mentalist – all appointment television. But they can’t stand a chance when you don’t know when you can even see them or record them. Then, CBS cancels them because “the ratings don’t justify renewal.” Well, how can you get ratings if even the most loyal viewers get cheated out of a chance to view their favorite show! MOVE THE SHOWS TO A NIGHT WHERE THEY STAND A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like cbs is going to tank to somewhere below the shopping channel. Pitiful decision making by idiots in charge.

Why don’t they just show reruns or shows nobody cares about on Sunday night rather than mess up good shows! CSI is one of the very few shows we watch on CBS. It does not matter how much they make on football. It is totally disrespectful to viewers of the shows they screw over.

Hate it. Too much football on too many nights. Hated that they moved Big Bang to Monday and now they’re changing it. Why did they have to screw with the schedule in the first place? Csi should have stayed on Thursday. The suits are stupid.

That’s what i was thinking Sunday seems to be where they put their shows they want to die lost viewership is always the blame but CSI has always been a power house spinning off multiple shows most of which were never as god as the original. so why waste money with spin offs just keep improving the original. i would say why don’t you make sunday night a repeat night re-air shows from earlier in the week that way if you have to cut it people wont be too upset about other channels do it..

There is so little reason to watch CBS anymore this move just furthers this fact, most of there shows suck except CSI and now they have lost there marbles with preemptive programming.

Why get so upset over a TV show that will be aired at a later date? There are far more important things to worry about in this world!

Well this is BS! The previews for what was supposed to be last nights episode looked pretty good. Since its been moved to Sundays I have a hard time remembering it anyway, and now this happens? Well, maybe I’ll catch it next week. And as for the NFL, I like football, but seeing as I’m in NC, and couldn’t give a crap about the Panthers, I have no use for televised games. Plus the other games that air are also teams I don’t care about. This bending over backwards for everything the NFL does of late has also irritated the hell out of me. How many times can they report on the exact same story when nothing has changed since the last time they talked about it?

If the NFL continues to “woosifiy” and the thuggery of many of the players continue, it it will be a matter of time before the ratings will not justify the high price the networks pay.

At the end of the day, it’s CBS decision but, as both I and my wife were up til after 11 waiting for CSI only to find out it was canceled by watching the news come on, their failure to inform viewers is a major faux pas.
Going back to last year, there is a lack of integrity by CBS to post a schedule that they know cannot hold up. Its not just shows starting late, it’s recording a show for later only to find out you have something else.
If NFL programming the CBS broadcasts predictably runs over 60 Minutes, they should have bitten the bullet to just turn that into sports programming to round out the hour from days known-to-run-over scheduled games.
As it it, I think CSI is marooned late on Sunday after a series of shows I really don’t care for.

MAYBE, they should schedule the games at 4pm instead of 425pm…you know damn well they are not going to be done in 3 hours! And quit with the “BONUS” coverage when a game ends either on time or just a little late. Another option is start the prime time at 8pm when they have a later game. That would put CSI at 11pm, but people that watch the show will stay up. OR, stop putting 60 minutes and then 3 other shows on Sunday night! Move one of those 3 shows to another night! I know football is a big business, but CBS needs to realize not EVERYONE watches football, and they look forward to these shows, and they shouldn’t be preempted or the viewer shouldn’t have to “guess” when the show might start! And excuse me, the game only went over 1/2 hour, so no excuse! They have had games that went over almost 1 hour, and still showed all the shows! Thank God for DVR! But not tonight!

Absolutely hate most sports expecially anything having to do with grown men tripping over their ball or trying to get it into a small hole. Golf is a good walk ruined. :( I wonder if CSI will suffer the same fate as The Mentalist.

Sick of Football ruling over everything! Why did you move CSI to Sunday nights anyway or The Good Wife and The Mentalist for that matter!? Really sick of football running over…maybe if there weren’t commercials every 2-3 minutes it wouldn’t run over…absolutely ridiculous! You suck!

It’s an easy fix, that is if the network wasn’t run by morons. Move 60 Minutes to 7pm with an NFL postgame show between then and end of last game. Then move one of the 3 shows scheduled to another night, suggest CSI back to Thursdays. Naturally this will never happen because it makes sense and we all know the people in charge of most things have no clue about anything but having others do as told.

Also not happy. Is CBS trying to ruin another good show?? Its not as if they have a ton of good shows. What happens after nfl season is over. What if all of us “not happy” people all found something else to watch. Do you think the nfl’ers will watch CBS then? Isn’t there like a million sports channels? Isn’t that where football should be watched?

It sucks.sunday night is where cbs sends shiws to die .by having them pre-empted it gives the show very little chance to raise its ratings.
