Sad news for all of those looking forward to watching “CSI” tonight as a way to cap off their Sunday night. CBS has confirmed that there will be no new episode tonight due to NFL football running extremely late. See the post on Twitter below for evidence of that, and to take a moment to allow a frown to spread across your face. Nobody ever wants a schedule that is this confusing and last-minute!
The episode that was scheduled to air tonight will most likely air next week at the same time.
Should you be frustrated by this? Definitely, but it’s hardly the first time that this has happened. Last year, “The Mentalist” suffered the same fate, and it was right in the middle of the big Red John saga. Unfortunately, the reality here is that CBS pays a ton of money to broadcast all of these NFL games, and their ratings are astronomical, especially the ones that are extremely close and run into primetime. Therefore, there is almost zero incentive at all for CBS to change their ways, even if it comes at the expense of shows like “CSI.” We’ll just be impressed if it survives this season, given that both its Miami spin-off and “The Mentalist” have had a hard time going in this spot. While the latter was renewed, there was uncertainty for some time.
As for when you’ll actually get a chance to watch the show at its designated timeslot consistently, think along the lines of next year. Unfortunately, you are still going to only see 18 episodes this season thanks to an order reduction that was done to accommodate some other shows.
