‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: Blake Jenner, Melissa Benoist, Becca Tobin, more promoted

GleeIn case you were wondering why so many “Glee” stars were demoted from their post as series regulars prior to the start of season 5 production, we now have an answer for you: it was needed in order for a few other actors to receive a promotion.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Fox phenomenon has promoted the likes of Melissa Benoist (Marley), Jacob Artist (Jake), Becca Tobin (Kitty), Alex Newell (Unique), and Blake Jenner (Ryder) to series regulars for the upcoming fifth season. In case you’re wondering whether or not this is huge news, it totally is as this marks the first time ever that a former contestant from “The Glee Project” (or two, since both Newell and Jenner were on the Oxygen show) ended up getting to have this sort of job security. Meanwhile, it also ensures that more actors will not do what Jayma Mays just did and leave for a fancier job somewhere else. (With that being said, it’s understandable she’d actually want some screen time somewhere.)

Of the five promoted actors, Jenner was the only one that we had some uncertainty about, given that Ryder told Will at the end of last season that he planned on leaving New Directions at the end of the Regionals performance. However, knowing now that Unique was the person behind the catfishing scandal may be enough to change that for him.

We do feel bad at times for some of these actors, as they have had the impossible task of trying to fill the voice left by huge stars from the New Directions. We’ve personally enjoyed the stories of most of them, with Jake and Marley being the two that need the most work, given that their love story is almost too predictable. (Then again, Marley for whatever reason is someone that is seemingly impossible to relate to.)

It’s been a busy Saturday in the “Glee” world, as you can also head over here if you want to check out the latest season 5 cast photo featuring some of the students.
