‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: Jayma Mays’ future in question as she joins ‘The Millers’

Jayma MaysWhile Jayma Mays was not a series regular on “Glee‘s” fourth season, it is looking more and more like the Will – Emma wedding may have been one of the last major appearances that we have of the couple together on the show for the time being. What’s the reason for that? The simple answer is that Jayma’s schedule just got way more complicated.

Sources confirm that the one-time “Heroes” guest star (which is where we first saw her) has signed on to replace Mary Elizabeth Ellis in the CBS sitcom “The Millers” (watch the trailer here) where she will play the part of Will Arnett’s sister. It’s a bit of an interesting cast, given that we don’t really think these two actors look that much like. The show is also currently recasting the role of husband for Mays’ character, after Michael Rappaport played it in the pilot.

Given that this job makes Mays a series regular, it will be difficult for her to reprise her “Glee” role without the studio’s permission, and everything lining up when it comes to the schedule. The positive thing about sitcom work is that the schedule is not as insane as with some other shows, but this is a still a major hurdle in her having a huge role on her former show in the near future. (We also see this move as more proof that around the midway point in the season, “Glee” is going to likely shift even further away from a high-school setting.)

“The Millers” is also a great opportunity to get a wide audience, given that CBS is airing this show at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday nights, following their uber-hit “The Big Bang Theory.” When you look at “Glee’s” declining ratings, this could be a step up for Mays if the comedy even keeps 66% of its lead-in’s numbers.

While Mays is booking this show, the cast of “Glee” (at least the younger ones) is taking part in a photo shoot for the fifth season. You can read more about what they are up to here.
