The Way Home season 1 finale: ‘What happened to Jacob’ updates

The Way Home season 1

As we prepared for The Way Home season 1 finale tonight, we knew there was one big question: What happened to Jacob? Was the show actually going to tell us?

We recognized entering this episode that there were a couple of ways that the Hallmark Channel drama could go about it. They could do the kind thing, which was to actually give some answers and offer a sense of closure. Or, they could choose to keep us in the dark on this for a little while longer. We know that there is a second season coming and by virtue of that, we recognize fully that it gives the entire creative team a little bit more flexibility than they would otherwise have. (Of course, that doesn’t mean that they will exercise it.)

For most of the season, we have seen the creative team do their part to weave in this mystery alongside a lot of other questions, and of course the concept of time-travel (which can often be rather hard to navigate). We’ve wanted nothing more than to inch our way towards closure … so do we finally have it?

Of course, and in true finale fashion, the show made us wait a long time for Kat to start getting a better understanding of Jacob and what happened. In the closing minutes, she started to put some pieces together, including opening a book to find a secret message … and also looking to the stars.

Then, we flashed back to a young Jacob many years before as he approached the water — and then, we flashed all the way back to New Haven, more than two centuries ago. We didn’t get all the answers, but apparently, there’s a plan to be back for him there … at some point … and in some time. That is your cliffhanger!
