‘Girls’ season 3 spoilers: Recent ‘Doctor Who’ actor signs on for premiere spot

GirlsIf there is one thing you probably know about “Girls” (the show, not the entire gender) if you are a diehard fan, it is that Lena Dunham is notorious for keeping storylines under wraps as much as humanly possible. However, we know thanks to the start of production that there will be a new guest star stopping by for the premiere, and hopefully it will help fill the void left by the sudden departure of Christopher Abbott (Charlie) due to some creative differences.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, British actor Richard E. Grant, who recently appeared in the stellar “Doctor Who” Christmas special, will be appearing in the season 3 premiere. Sadly, the only detail that we can confirm right now is that his character’s name is Jasper. Will he in some way be related to Jessa? It is almost unfair to really speculate on that just because the two both carry with them accents, since Grant could be disguising it (though this does seem unlikely with a name like Jasper).

What we do know is that Dunham surely has been forced to deal with quite a bit over the course of the past several months. “Girls” season 2 was incredibly polarizing, with critics lauding the creative risks while many fans protested a number of things, including that the show often got away from Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna spending time together in order to focus on smaller character stories that often left a few faces in the dust. Ultimately, it’s unclear just what direction the star / writer / creator is going to go next.

What do you think about the casting, and is there anything in particular you want to see from “Girls” season 3? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and you can read a little bit more news on Abbott’s exit by heading on over to the link here.
