‘Mad Men’ season 6: January Jones talks frequent ‘change’ for Betty
If there is one thing that “Mad Men” continues to be about after six seasons, it is the concept of change. Executive producer Matthew Weiner has never been afraid to push forward the lives of many of his characters. If you look at just about every single character who is a series regular on the show, almost all of them have seen some pretty significant movement in their lives, whether it be with their career (Peggy), their marriages (Don and Betty), or the things that they will do in order to get ahead (Joan).
Based on what January Jones is saying now, this is one of the many reasons why she finds working on this show to be so enjoyable to begin with. Speaking in a new interview with USA Today, here is what the actress had to say about the near-constant evolution of a woman who is now Betty Francis, and how this makes her love working on the show even more:
“But I love going back to Betty. And Betty changes every season too … I can’t say how she’s different. But the greatest thing about Matthew’s writing is he’s constantly evolving these characters.”
All we know for sure about Betty’s storyline for the coming season (mostly because this is the only thing that Weiner is willing to give up) is that the character is going to have a much more substantial role. Considering that at the moment she is not tied too much into anyone’s life except for Don’s as her ex, we are already interested to see just what is going to cause her to enter the mix yet again.
