Agents of SHIELD season 6 episode 11 review: Flint, Sarge, Izel’s plan

Agents of SHIELD

Tonight, Agents of SHIELD season 6 episode 11 was all about setting up the endgame … whatever that endgame may be. It was all about setting up some key emotional threads and giving you reminders that Izel is terrible.

How much so? Well, we saw her aboard the ship with Mack and Yo-Yo, doing whatever she could to torment them and also extract information from Benson … by whatever means that she possibly could. That meant forcing Benson to relive the death of Thomas time and time again, no matter just how evil he was.

A part of the problem that went along with stopping Izel was simply this: Trying to figure out a proper way in order to deceive her, given the fact that she can inhabit other bodies and uses emotional recoil as leverage. After using Benson, Izel decided to embark on a mission down to Mexico with her gravitron intact, looking to unlock all sorts of evil into the world.

While Izel was formulating her evil plan, Daisy for most of the episode was desperate in order to get answers as to what exactly Sarge was — and whether or not he was really Phil Coulson at all. After (temporarily) killing him, it seemed as though his true form was going to be revealed one way or another. He was powerful, he was dangerous, but he was also still Coulson. That part of him was there as much as it’s always been. It was pretty genius how it came out, as well, given that him referring to Daisy as Skye in a moment of anger and emotion sent a shockwave down her spine.

It took Daisy a little bit of time to recover from this reveal, especially since May had warned her time and time again that there was a chance that Sarge could be somewhere in there. The question now is whether or not Sarge’s powers could be used for good rather than evil and if he is the key to taking down Izel.

Speaking of taking down Izel, were Fitz, Simmons, and Deke able to figure that out? Harmonic frequencies could be the key to taking her down, as it turns out that her powers operate in a way that is somewhat similar to the monoliths.

The closing minutes

Izel was working at the temple to “open a gateway to her home,” one that will bring her family over and allow her to assume control. She wanted to use the minds of Mack and Yo-Yo against them in order to ensure that she could recreate the monoliths. She wanted to use her fears against them. That’s why she conjured up Flint in front of Yo-Yo and Mack.

Is that really Flint, though? That’s the big question but, for now, we feel like there’s something more going on here.

CarterMatt Verdict

Aren’t we gearing up for an awesome conclusion to this season? It definitely feels that way right now. We know that Izel is getting closer to finalizing her plan, and Sarge/Coulson/whoever else he is will be the key to stopping her. The larger question now is whether or enough there is enough time to make a move happen.
