Good Trouble season 2 spoilers: Cierra Ramirez on Mariana, Raj’s struggle
When it comes to what’s happening at the company Speckulate, we know that the character is fighting for a greater sense of respect and equality in the workplace. It’s about fair treatment, understanding, and not letting anything draconian get in the way of doing a good job. Yet, there is also another component to this story that is important in its own right: Mariana having feelings for one of her co-workers in Raj. The two are going to be doing what they can in order to get closer to each other, but the problem is that there are some rules that make it tough. They have to hide some of what’s going on and that could be a challenge.
So where do things go from here? Speaking via TVLine about what is coming up next, here is what star/executive producer Cierra Ramirez had to say on the subject:
I think it’s going to put a strain on both ends. Because she’s not really in a place where she can tell everyone at Speckulate she’s dating a co-worker. Josh got fired for that very reason, for making advances on women there. But also, she does like him, so it’s a hard thing. We’ll definitely explore that throughout this season.
The further that we go into this story, the more difficult this strain can become. We don’t think that it’s necessarily an either-or situation right now where Mariana has to choose her heart or her job, but if she wants to both keep Raj and the position that she has, she’ll need to make some choices … some really careful choices. On the other side of that, we also think that she’ll need a lot of support. This is where Callie comes into play and, beyond just that, where some of her other friendships can start to factor in, as well.
Good Trouble is going to remain in season 2 a socially-conscious story about young people working to turn their dreams into reality. Sometimes, doing this is not a straight line. There are twists and challenges that come every step of the way. We don’t think Mariana planned to have feelings for someone at work and yet, here we are.
