Is Absentia renewed for season 3, canceled? The quest for more episodes
Let’s kick off this discussion with where things are at the moment. There isn’t any official word right now, on whether or not there will be a third season — whether it be at Amazon or some other broadcasters around the world. Absentia is a tricky show to gauge sometimes in terms of its success, mostly because we’re talking about a product that has a complicated ratings structure and there are very few institutions that actually quantify numbers all over the entire world. Its success is based on sales, views, streams, and global support. There’s more then enough enthusiasm out there for a season 3, but it’s hard to say what the networks are thinking without seeing the season 2 viewing numbers.
We know that at one point, there was talk about season 2 and season 3 being ordered at the same time; yet, when Amazon and Sony officially gave the Stana Katic series a season 2, that’s all it got.

How long will the Absentia wait continue?
Following the season 1 premiere on Amazon, it was months before they formally greenlit a season 2 in the United States. The same could be said here depending on what information Amazon and the other providers need to see. We think it would benefit the show to get renewal news as soon as possible especially if season 3 were to begin shooting a little bit later this year. They would need time to get a proper story together and then the cast would need to ensure that they have the time in their schedules for it to happen.
Of course, Absentia doesn’t have to be the sort of show that films a new season every year. We know that some of the cast have other acting projects that they’re working on, so it certainly is possible that they can jump back and forth. Actor availability could impact shooting for season 3, but that’s not the #1 thing to be worried about. Instead, focus on the show’s success.
How to make an Absentia season 3 happen
The number 1 way to ensure we get more of the series is pretty simple — just be sure to watch the show on Amazon when it launches, and make sure you watch it the whole way through! You need to give the data people at Amazon a good sense that viewers are watching and enjoying the show so that when a potential season 3 comes out, you’re still with it. We’ve talked about this with Netflix shows, and so long as you watch it within the next month or so, your viewership will probably count a great deal.
