Shadowhunters season 3 episode 21, 22 (finale) preview: Malec wedding
However, to go along with this, we’re also at the finale — one that Freeform is billing as the series finale. You’ve probably read enough headlines over the past several months to know what this means. While we’ve long hoped that Shadowhunters would land another network or streaming service for a fourth season, nothing has come about. While we’ll always have hope that another suitor will come around, we have to treat the finale as a potential end of the road. It’s important to feel closure, and to go through the emotional gamut as many of the cast and producers did. Never give up on the future, but recognize that this needs to be a satisfying way to tie up the story.
As for what is going to transpire — we know that there will be a wedding! Before that happens, though, Alec’s going to have his work cut out for him trying to help Magnus (he traveled to Edom to prepare to stop Jonathan). Meanwhile, everyone is going to have to figure out a way to save the world as we know it. It’s not going to be easy, and it’s certainly going to take them working together given that Jonathan is not just intent on destroying the world, but he seems to be basing much of his thought process on emotion. With someone who is this irrational, there may not be a sensible way to get through to him.

Based on what we’ve got here, the wedding will be coming up in the second episode, and Jonathan’s not going to be gone from the picture before then, either.
For those who may not remember, the producers have already said that there will be room for more stories after the finale, even if it has a proper ending. We’re looking at it right now similar to the Timeless finale, which tied up most loose ends but at the same time at least made it possible for there to be something more down the road.
