As the photo above gives away, Martin is back as Joe West for the upcoming March 5 episode entitled “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd.” The circumstances behind Joe’s specific return to the series remains to be seen, but it’s been a long time coming. The actor temporarily left the series to recover from a recent back injury, which is one of the reasons why you’ve seen him sitting down for a lot of his scenes over the course of this season. They had to find some creative ways at times to write him out, with one of them being that he is off visiting Wally West — who we also know to be out in the ether right now. (It’s not entirely clear if we are ever going to see Keiynan Lonsdale again since the ball is really in his court.)

We do think that Joe’s return is coming at the right time since Barry and Iris both could be using some parental advice on the subject of what to do with Nora in the long-term. We cannot imagine that the secret around Eobard Thawne is going to be an altogether-easy thing for anyone to digest, and it’s something that could make Barry and Iris angry. Yet, we know that Nora isn’t doing it for a particularly bad reason — she thinks that she is trying to help, but she’s too naive (seemingly) to realize that the Reverse Flash is almost always up to no good and we certainly think that this is going to be the case here, as well. Joe could help them see (in the event the secret comes out) that pushing Nora away is the wrong way to deal with it.

Of course, we know that the episode title alone gives you two very specific things to be excited about that have nothing to do with Joe at all. King Shark and Gorilla Grodd are two of the most-iconic villains within the world of The Flash, but for this episode, you could actually see at least one of them team up with Barry for at least a little while.
