So what are we talking about here? Well, some of that started with Elizabeth McCord doing what she could in order to take on a tense situation when it comes to proxies — there was a reason that this episode was entitled “Proxy War.” This was about as current of a storyline as you are going to see, largely due to the fact that we had at the center of this episode Russia, Syria, and Iran — three countries that certainly do generate a lot of headlines. We don’t foresee that changing at any point in the near future.

Yet, we do think that Elizabeth was able to do her part in order to ensure that she could to limit the use of cluster-bombs in order to generate more peace and lives being saved. We’re not going to say that this was the flashiest story-of-the-week plot that Madam Secretary has ever delivered, but we do think that this is a great reminder that the show is setting the stage for Elizabeth’s future and building a foundation based on legitimate hope for a better, brighter future.

And then, there’s Jason and crypto-currency

We had a pretty good feeling from the start that this wasn’t going to end well, and lo and behold, that is precisely what happened. In this episode, we saw the character try to come up with a get-rich-quick scheme, only to realize that there is no real way to do that. He mined a lot of coin but, in the process, spiked the electricity and the usage rate of the family’s internet. Because of that, there was really no way for this to be profitable. He learned, in the end, that he was better of getting a job as a busboy — this at least gave him a stable income without having to worry so much about playing the odds.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall, we do think that Madam Secretary delivered an episode like no other, one that perfectly combined all sorts of great drama from start to finish. If you love political turmoil, negotiating, and timely stories, there was a lot to like here. This episode may also set the stage for some peace, or at least we hope so. This is one of the things that the show does really well. Let’s just see where things go from here.

We will say this — kudos to the writers for taking on crypto-currency. Most other network shows won’t even bother.
