Outlander season 4 episode 11 photos (part 2): Aunt Jocasta & Ulysses

Jocasta is such a fascinating character within the world of the show, largely because there is this question of whether or not her circumstance justifies her behavior. We’re talking here about someone who, despite her blindness and a time period that isn’t always friendly towards women, has amassed quite a fortune and empire for herself. In a different set of circumstances, maybe she becomes an inspiration for this; yet, the fact that she is a slave owner negates all of that. The ends don’t justify the means here and she has shown to be rather myopic in some of her views. If she wants something, she often tends to just do it or try to execute it — take, for example, her wanting to hand the reigns of River Run eventually over to Jamie.
Moving into episode 11, Jocasta is going to set her sights instead on Brianna, and she could end up being responsible for trying to set her up with Mr. Forbes, a character who may have a good bit of wealth and influence in the local community. To Jocasta, this is a move that makes perfect sense — marrying off young women is fairly custom in the time, or at least this is the excuse she may be telling herself just like she also tries to justify slavery as a part of the fabric of the region. She may not expect the resistance that she gets to the idea.
So while Jocasta does take Brianna in and helps to shield her from some of the dangers of the world, there is this other side of the story with her that needs to be considered.
What’s going on with her and Ulysses?
It’s certainly another fascinating conversation to ponder over, especially if you are a book fan and are familiar of the larger relationship that exists here. It’s absolutely something that the show could explore a little bit further, and it really just comes down to timing and finding the right way in which to tell it. After all, Outlander has already got quite a bit on its plate at the moment with a number of other characters.
