Top Chef: Kentucky episode 4 preview: Restaurant Wars comes early

Top Chef

When Top Chef: Kentucky episode 4 airs on Bravo on Thursday, Restaurant Wars will be here! Are you surprised that it’s coming so early? Well, that is kind of the point here. Typically, this is something that happens a little bit later in the year once contestants have their feet wet. This time around, everyone is going from the frying pan right into the fire!

So what makes this edition of Restaurant Wars a little bit different? The Top Chef: Kentucky episode 4 synopsis below gives you a little bit more insight on that very subject:

In a massive twist, Padma’s favorite challenge Restaurant Wars comes early this year, but before the chefs gear up for battle, they must first duke it out in an amuse bouche-based Quickfire for Top Chef alum turned James Beard Award winning chefs: Karen Akunowicz and Nina Compton. Then, the gauntlet has been thrown and with twelve chefs remaining, three restaurants will be battling for victory. James Beard Award winning restaurateur Caroline Styne joins as the guest judge along with Nilou Motamed. And if this unexpected chaos isn’t enough, Tom leaves the Chefs breathless with an announcement that will change the course of the competition.

The key to having a great Restaurant Wars, more than almost anything else, is communication. Find the right person to run front of the house, come up with a cohesive plan, and then work together in order to ensure that this plan is well-executed. Even if the food isn’t perfect, you’ve got a much-better chance of succeeding if at least you’re providing a good experience and you handle some of the pressure well. The losing Restaurant Wars teams are often the ones who are disorganized or have team members who are thinking for themselves and ignoring the larger concept.

So what could the big “announcement” be? Our feeling is that it could have a thing or two to do with Last Chance Kitchen, largely because it does benefit the show to potentially get someone back in the competition sooner rather than later — especially a returning chef. (Warning: Last Chance Kitchen spoilers ahead.) On this past episode (watch here), Brother Luck was officially the last veteran standing, and we certainly do think it’d be fun to get him back on the flagship show. We think that this twist was planned out long in advance, and it could play out similar to how it did last season.

Regardless of what happens, it feels fair to say that things are going to get a little bit crazy. That is really what Last Chance Kitchen is about more so than almost anything else.
