Supergirl season 4 episode 3

It may be a bit surprising to some that Supergirl season 4 episode 3 will be an Agent Liberty origin story, mostly because it is so early in the season. Typically, we don’t get these sort of episodes until a little bit later down the road.

Yet, in this case it feels clear that someone among the writers/producers wanted to ensure that there were some opportunities now that we got to know this character better, mostly to understand their motives and why they are so formidable to Supergirl and virtually every other alien on Earth. The promos that are out there for this season strongly indicate that Agent Liberty is against all aliens, and this episode will prove that much of this stems from his father.

Take a look at the Supergirl season 4 episode 3 synopsis for some greater detail:

XANDER BERKELEY GUEST STARS IN THE ORIGIN STORY OF AGENT LIBERTY — Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) didn’t always hate aliens. Through a series of incidents, and input from his anti-alien father (guest star Xander Berkeley), Ben slowly transforms from a mild-mannered professor into the villainous Agent Liberty of today. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Rob Wright & Derek Simon (#403). Original airdate 10/28/2018.

There’s a good chance that you know Berkeley from his work as Gregory on The Walking Dead, but here he will have a chance to take on a completely different sort of role. What we wonder is how much of the core characters we will see beyond him.

Here’s one other interesting question to wonder: Whether or not we are getting this Agent Liberty origin story so early because it enabled Melissa Benoist to have time to wrap up her run on Broadway. This is an episode that they could film early on in production while she was still in New York; that way, she wasn’t required for as much of it and she could pick up a few scenes when she made it to Vancouver to start filming. That’s just one theory that is on our mind at the moment.
