Gotham season 5: David Mazouz on Bruce’s potential journey to being Batman

Gotham

Gotham season 5 is coming in the new year and while there isn’t a whole lot of information out there about it, we’ve have some new teasers as to what to expect.

Speaking to TVLine while at San Diego Comic-Con, series star David Mazouz (the sole representative for the series in attendance this year – there was no Gotham panel) was coy as to whether or not he would get to wear the famed costume by the end of the series’ run. Yet, he did make it clear that “things are in motion” when it comes to his workout routine. He also said that he will be facing off against some of the show’s biggest adversaries this coming season, including one whose name may very well begin with a J. Filming is starting this month, and will likely continue over the course of the coming months. While the final season is reportedly going to be just ten episodes, the one advantage that may come out of that is that we’re likely to get a story here that doesn’t have a lot of filler to it. You’ll get a pretty jam-packed narrative with a lot of battles, twists, and all sorts of meaty material as the Dark Knight prepares to potentially rise.

Thematically, Mazouz did also talk about why Batman could rise to the forefront at this particular time:

“The reason Batman is necessary, the reason that Bruce decides to dress himself up as a bat, is because the police department can’t do what he can. A vigilante is necessary to bring order to Gotham … This is the perfect way to show that GCPD is ultimately incapable of taking care of the city. That’s why Batman is necessary, and it is going to come into play in a huge way this year.”

Also, Mazouz joked that he is periodically trying to find out from Ben McKenzie if he is growing the signature James Gordon mustache that is so iconic to the comics. We’re all for it — this is the final season and it’s just ten episodes, so why not give us the mustache that we so desire?
