Outlander notes: Tobias Menzies, Sophie Skelton, and DVD celebrations galore

Outlander notesThis edition of Outlander notes is really all about celebrations — isn’t it nice that we have a lot of things to stand up and cheer about at the moment? CarterMatt likes to think so, and much of that starts with birthdays.

Today, we have to give a toast to both Tobias Menzies (Frank / Black Jack Randall) and Sophie Skelton (Brianna) for the respective birthdays! These two are both incredibly significant in their own way when it comes to their overall impact on the series. Even though their paths crossed within the show’s timeline for many years, there actually was not all that much screen time that the two actors shared in the same room together. Frank helped to raise Bree before his death, and moving into season 4 Bree is going to be on a journey of her own through the past.

For Menzies, be sure to be on the looking for the premiere of his new AMC series The Terror a little bit later this month. We know that for us, we’re absolutely excited to be able to write a little bit more about this show. It’s a very different series from Outlander but at the same time, there is a little bit of surprising common ground that the two do share. It’s a period drama with a twist!

An Outlander DVD celebration

For those of you who are in the UK, the season 3 DVD / Blu-Ray can be officially purchased! You can head over to the Amazon UK page for more information. Alas, American fans of Outlander have to wait until April to watch it in this format — it may be easy to complain about this, but at the same exact time it’s hard to be that upset when you consider just how many other advantages that we’ve had over the years in terms of getting to watch shows early. Let the UK have this.

Finally, congratulations to Laura Donnelly!

As you can see below, the actress (who plays Jenny on the series) has been nominated for Best Actress at the Olivier Awards for her work in The Ferryman. Mass congratulations! It’s always lovely to see someone recognized for their work, regardless of it is on Outlander or somewhere else altogether.
