This Is Us season 2 spoilers: Will Jack’s brother resurface?

We know that Jack is dead on This Is Us; yet, we’ve also known that from the very beginning of the series. There are no real surprises when it comes to that story.

Instead, one of the larger questions that CarterMatt has been left to wonder is simply this: What stories could be left for the NBC series to share with us? That includes some more questions when it comes to Jack’s brother. We know that there is a story there from earlier this season, and it’s one that does still need to be told. It’s from a very different timeline than the one that the series has explored to date. Think in terms of prior to Jack meeting Rebecca and their epic love story that comes in the time that follows.

What we know is that Jack’s brother served with him while in Vietnam, so there is very clearly a story that needs to be told there. Luckily, it does not feel as though producers are going to make you wait all that long for more on this story. Speaking to TVLine, here is what Milo Ventimiglia had to say on that subject:

“His brother, I think is something that’s going to come up relatively quickly, and play out over the next season or so.”

We know that what happened with these two brothers overseas is probably going to be, in part, one of the reasons why Jack holds his family so close within the present. He understands a little bit more of what family means and, to go along with that, how quickly that they can be lost. That’s why he went back into the house, desperate to save Kate’s dog Louie. He understood just how much Louie is a part of the family and he could not bear to any Pearson family member in the fire. He just didn’t think that he would lose himself in the process.

As for whether or not This Is Us could eventually phase out Jack as some more of his stories are wrapped up, we have a hard time imagining that this will ever really be the case. While we’re not sure if we will see as much of him in a potential seasons down the road as we’re seeing from him now, this is a character who lived a very rich life and it extended far past the era that we’ve mostly focused on leading up to the reveal of his death this season.
