Caitriona Balfe sets up Claire’s Outlander season 3 episode 11 journey

Earlier today CarterMatt shared some of the first Outlander season 3 episode 11 photos featuring star Caitriona Balfe — now, we’re ready to offer up a little more scoop via Balfe herself! “Uncharted” is a pivotal hour for Claire Fraser, largely because this is a story of survival different than many others she’s encountered. While she’s been through a lot, she hasn’t been stranded on an island in the middle of the Caribbean before. Add to that the race against time she’s up against to ensure that no more trouble befalls Jamie and you’ve got a pretty good understanding as to what sort of peril she’s in.

Speaking in a new interview with the Radio Times, Balfe did a great job of explaining what the aftermath of Claire jumping overboard is going to look like and also a good reminder as to why she is going to be okay:

“[Claire] leaps into the ocean and she gets washed up on shore but not exactly where she thinks that she should be … So I think she spends quite some time trying to figure out where she is and how she is going to finally get back to Jamie to be able to warn him of what she’s found out … She’s been through the Second World War. If anyone is going to give Bear Grylls a run for his money, I think Claire will.”

There are many different reasons why Claire is probably going to be able to emerge from this chaos in one piece, with one of the biggest ones being that she is resourceful. She knows what to do when her back is against the wall and how to endear herself to a number of different people. These are people who are predisposed to not trust her by and large — without even knowing anything about these characters Claire meets, many people went to the new world, the West Indies, or many other places to escape persecution. They may be worried about someone tracking them down or their past coming back to bite them. Claire has to make them think that she’s a friend — not only for them to care for her, but also for them to be convinced to actually help her.
