Outlander season 3 episode 11 preview: Claire in ‘Uncharted’ territory

Outlander season 3 episode 11

Outlander season 3 episode 11 is entitled “Uncharted,” and it doesn’t take much guessing to understand why. Right when Claire started to think that she had taken a step forward to reunite with Jamie, her plot to swim to the Artemis did not go according to plan.

Before saying much else, let’s start this Outlander season 3 episode 11 preview with the official Starz synopsis:

After making a leap of faith, Claire washes up on a seemingly deserted island where survival is her only option. Navigating treacherous waters has crippled the Artemis, so Jamie devises a joyful moment for his crew in the midst of devastating setbacks.

The promo below makes the stakes of this situation crystal clear: If Claire doesn’t make it back to Jamaica before Jamie ends up meeting the crew of the Porpoise, Captain Leonard is going to bring him in on charges under the name of Alexander Malcolm. Whatever freedom and hope that the two have had will be rather short-lived. Her challenge is therefore trying to figure out a way to survive long enough to make it back there. That is not going to be easy given that Claire finds herself in a new place, separate from Jamie and without many of her bearings. While she was able to make herself useful thanks to her skills as a doctor aboard the Porpoise, what does she have to offer now? Who can she turn to in order to help?

Back on the Artemis itself, good on Jamie for finding a way to cheer up the crew — we supposed that he’s just happy to not be locked up anymore! Unfortunately for him he’s going to be far less joyful the moment that he realizes not only what is coming his way courtesy of the Porpoise, but also that Claire is not even aboard that ship. As we enter the home stretch of the season (there are only three more episodes), we envision that we are going to see quite a bit when it comes to chaos. The good news here is that Jamie and Claire are going to end up finding each other in the end. However, what remains a mystery to non-book readers is how that happens and what the consequences of this said reunion are. What we’ve come to learn more and more of over time is Newton’s First Law of Outlander — for every positive action there is an equal and devastating reaction.

One last thing to celebrate in this episode, at least from an awards standpoint, is that this could be another great opportunity for Caitriona Balfe to showcase her talent for a Golden Globes win.
