Supergirl season 3 episode 5 spoilers: A Sanvers decision; Lena in crisis

Sanvers

Just in case you wondering, Supergirl season 3 episode 5 is going to be one of the most emotional ones of the whole season. There are going to be huge storylines ahead when it comes to Lena Luthor and Morgan Edge, and then also one via Maggie and Alex that may have much of the fandom very afraid.

We don’t want to wait too long before getting to some analysis; take a look at the Supergirl season 3 episode 5 synopsis below:

“When multiple children get sick from lead poisoning, Morgan Edge (guest star Adrian Pasdar) points the finger at Lena (Katie McGrath) and blames her creation of the lead bomb she made to save National City from the Daxamites. While Lena knows she never intended any harm, she fears there may have been a flaw in her design, leaving her responsible. Kara (Melissa Benoist) teams up with Samantha (Odette Annable) to clear Lena’s name, but it turns out to be harder than they thought. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) make a crucial decision about the future of their relationship. Kevin Smith directed the episode written by Eric Carrasco & Cindy Lichtman (#305). Original airdate 11/6/2017.”

The big thing that will probably be remembered in this episode is whatever happens to Sanvers, given their status as one of the most beloved couples in all of TV at the moment. The reality here is that Floriana Lima is not a series regular this season, and with that come challenges. If you keep them together you run the risk of not getting her back in the near future — therefore limiting your story. Meanwhile, if you don’t keep them together you run the risk of causing fan riots. That’s the problem with almost any relationship that is out there on TV when one of the actors makes the decision to leave.

As for the rest of this episode, it does seem as though this is going to be one of the best performances for McGrath since she first joined the show last year. If Morgan Edge wants to use this moment as an opportunity to turn the city against her and remind everyone in turn of her last name and family history, he may certainly sweep in and do that. It may be heard to stop some of this momentum once it really gets going, and she may be reliant on Kara Danvers the reporter to help. It’s going to be her responsibility as a reporter more so than as Supergirl to try and control the narrative.
