Supergirl season 3 episode 3 preview: Alex and Maggie’s wedding shower

Supergirl season 3 episode 3

What is there to be excited about on Supergirl season 3 episode 3? Let’s just say that Alex and Maggie’s wedding shower tops the list. For Sanvers fans, this should be a cause for celebration — at least in theory. There is, sadly, potentially for a number of things to go wrong, with at the top of the list being an appearance from Maggie’s long-estranged father. This episode is going to mark an opportunity to see Carlos Bernard for the first time as this character, and just on the basis of casting alone this is exciting. How could you not love the chance to see Tony Almeida of 24 fame within this world, and as this character? We want to hope that Maggie’s family finds a way to be pieced back together but we’re not all that confident it’ll happen. After all, this is not the sort of world where things do tend to come easy.

If you look below, you can see via The CW a few more details regarding just what is coming up. We’ll have some CarterMatt analysis after the fact!

Supergirl season 3 episode 3 synopsis – “Eliza (guest star Helen Slater) throws Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) a wedding shower, which causes Maggie to reach out to her estranged father (guest star Carlos Bernard). Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) joins J’onn (David Harewood) on a personal mission. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Jessica Queller & Derek Simon (#303).”

We’re focusing mostly on the Sanvers stuff at the moment with this synopsis largely because it’s the meatier story that is easier to wrap your head around — this relationship is beloved, and of course we’re worried about whatever its future may hold given that Lima is not a series regular this time around. (As a reminder it was her decision to leave — the producers certainly are not forcing her out. We know we personally would love for her to stay.)

As for J’onn J’onzz and Kara Danvers, there could be an interesting storyline here — we know that J’onn’s father is being cast on the show and will appear at some point this season. Unfortunately, some of these details are so vague that it’s hard to know if it’s going to be in this episode or at some other point down the road. (Update: The promo below, coupled with the end of this past episode, signal that this episode does have to do with his home planet.)
