Supergirl season 3 episode 3 spoilers: Carlos Bernard’s debut as Maggie’s dad

Supergirl season 3 episode 3

When you get to Supergirl season 3 episode 3, there’s a good bit to be excited about — including a Sanvers wedding shower!

It’s basically been confirmed at this point that Maggie and Alex are getting engaged following the cliffhanger at the end of season 2, and that’s going to lead potentially to some really interesting stuff now moving into the future. Maggie’s father, for example, is one of those key cogs. He’s a big part of her backstory, and it’s a part of her life that she really hasn’t dealt with in a long time. She’s been able to have an escape from her unaccepting family in her new life and build relationships with over valuable people who matter to her immensely.

The synopsis below does give a sense at least as to why Maggie’s father is going to reenter her life, including how it is a move of her own doing:

“Eliza (guest star Helen Slater) throws Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) a wedding shower, which causes Maggie to reach out to her estranged father (guest star Carlos Bernard). Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) joins J’onn (David Harewood) on a personal mission. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Jessica Queller & Derek Simon.”

This Supergirl season 3 episode 3 story is one that we at CarterMatt are certainly of two minds about. From one vantage point, it’s absolutely exciting to have a story that is so meaty and brings a lot of interesting drama to the table, and it’s also thrilling to see Bernard on the show. Any change that we have to see someone from 24 on the series is something that we’re going to celebrate. The downside is that this could end up in turn hurting Maggie depending on how it goes. She’s a character who has already gone through a lot and doesn’t need any sort of salt poured on the wound.

As for the rest of the episode The CW isn’t revealing a whole lot, but we do think that it would be nice to get another great story for J’onn J’onzz that establishes a little bit more of the sort of character he is. Could this be when we learn more about his upbringing? We know that this is going to happen at some point during the third season.

Some other valuable news of note

Reign is the Big Bad of the season, and if you missed it Odette Annable did her best to explain some of her character’s journey. (Remember, she begins as a mild-mannered single mother named Samantha Arias.) You can head over here to read a little more news on this.

On a lighter note, check out this link to see a funny video ad for Big Belly Burger, often featured on both Arrow and The Flash.
