Shadowhunters season 2 episode 10: On that Jace – Clary reveal

Jace - Clary -

Tonight, the Shadowhunters season 2 episode 10 (also known as the “winter finale”) aired on Freeform, and there were certainly many moments that would have your hair standing on end. However, there was none that produced a reaction quite like Jace learning the truth about his lineage: He is not the biological son of Valentine. Meanwhile, he’s also not Clary’s sibling. This Jace – Clary revelation will spice things up moving into the second half of the season, especially as we start to see and understand more of these characters and their relationship.

So why have this information revealed to everyone now? As executive producer Todd Slavkin explained to Entertainment Weekly, much of this was about perfect timing mixed with the emotional complications that will come along with it:

“We thought it was terrific for Clary and Simon — their relationship is coming together and it’s so exciting — to be upended by this revelation. And then we loved the fact that the Soul Sword, which forces one to tell the truth, that that’s how that comes out, that Valentine is forced to admit that Jace isn’t his biological son through the fight of the Soul Sword. And so it all came together in what writers call lovely kismet. Moving forward in 2B, that triangle between Clary, Simon, and Jace only gets more complicated; it only gets juicier because Jace knows the truth. How he is going to deal with that is a great thing to see unfold.”

Basically, everything with the Soul Sword, coupled with the enormous reveal about Sebastian coming up, all but guarantees that the second half of Shadowhunters season 2 is going to be stuffed full of excitement. The big problem that will come up from here is merely having to wait around for it, since we’re talking about having to stick around until June to see the other part of the story. We did recently write a story featuring the return date for the show, and Sebastian and the complications of this aforementioned “triangle” is something we’re very much looking forward to discussing further as the season moves along.

Now, we want to hear from you: What did you think about the way that Shadowhunters presented the big twist tonight? Did they do everything the right way? Share some of your thoughts with a comment. (Photo: Freeform.)
