Alec Baldwin’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ version of Donald Trump may show up elsewhere

Trump -Is the sky really the limit for Alec Baldwin’s version of Donald Trump, as made famous by “Saturday Night Live“? As odd as it may seem, the former “30 Rock” star may be looking for some new ways to expand this character into some other venues.

Speaking in a new interview with ABC News, Baldwin suggested that he is looking into some other ways to use his Donald Trump impression, while still appearing on the NBC late-night sketch show however often that he can. This does help to assuage any concerns that Baldwin would eventually stop doing his impression on the show, but if he does start putting this impression in other venues, does it make it anywhere near as special?

Maybe Alec sees this as somewhat of an opportunity for further promotion, or maybe he wants to monetize the parody in a further manner given that he gets paid shockingly little for doing this on the sketch show. Either way, it feels like a bad idea to take something that has really breathed new life into “Saturday Night Live” and move it over to other things. For the record, it’s not as though “SNL” was dying a slow death — or tanking as the President-elect would like you to believe — before the impression came along. It’s just helped to give the show some of its best ratings in years as well as some of it’s biggest laughs.

Given all of the headlines this week in particular revolving around Trump courtesy of his press conference and the Russia controversy, it would be a jaw-dropper if Baldwin didn’t appear this weekend for the show hosted by Felicity Jones (you can check out a preview for that over here). Our sentiment is that we could see him this weekend, as well as following weekend given that this particular episode is coming right after Inauguration Day. After we get to that point, we could see things start to scale back and only have Baldwin turn up when there is some huge current-events story that will need some proper attention.

In some ways, it’s probably a good thing if we don’t see much of Baldwin after January, mostly because that may be a signal that Trump isn’t doing anything too crazy. Do you think that Baldwin should limit his Trump to “SNL,” or are you fine seeing him trying to move this sketch into other things? Let us know in the comment box below!
