‘The Flash’ season 3, episode 6 photo: Wally West, Doctor Alchemy meet up

Wally -

Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Flash” will be here before long, and it is already clear that there are some reasons for apprehension about it — especially if you consider yourself a fan of the Wally West character.

The photo above is really all you need to see in order for there to be some concern. Is this a dream? It’s possible, since we know that the character will be starting to have some visions about his life, and his powers, within the Flashpoint timeline. We also do know, however, that paying a visit to Doctor Alchemy could be a way in which he could descend into madness. This is not someone we understand the motives for at all at the moment. So far, he’s given powers to people who end up being adversaries of Barry Allen, and there could be a certain degree of him either wanting to restore the world to what it once was, or merely opting to allow it to burn to the ground, metaphorically at the very least.

For Wally, we do understand why he would want to seek powers out. This is someone who, much like Barry in a way, felt helpless for much of his life. While Barry’s father was behind bars, Wally’s mother struggled and he did everything that he could to make things better for her, even doing some things that are far from above-board. Yet, nothing that he did would work, and he wants to feel like he’s more in control of his own destiny. Being Kid Flash is a good way for him to do that.

In the event that he does get some of these powers, he’s going to still need training — and a lot of it. We just hope that we don’t go through another thing where Joe is extremely worried for his safety. Sure, it’s understandable that he would be, but we wouldn’t want the Wally West origin story to hit all of the same notes and dimensions as the one that ultimately came before it.

We’ll have a chance to see what happens shortly, but you better believe that both this and next week’s “Killer Frost” especially are going to set the stage for the upcoming four-part crossover event. (Photo: The CW.)
