‘The Flash’ season 2, ‘Supergirl’ crossover happening … for now

FlashIt was at this point a week ago that some rumors were starting to begin anew for “The Flash” and “Supergirl” coming together as an epic crossover event. Unfortunately, at the moment it appears official that these were rumors and nothing more.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg (who works on both shows) did more or less make it clear that this is a subject that has been discussed, there are so many different variables that would go into this that he does not even know if it could logistically be possible given that the two shows air on different networks:

“There’s always those late nights, delirious, semi-high on pizza where you’re like, ‘You know what would be really cool? If …,’ … But right now there is no legitimate actual plan to bring [The Flash‘s] Cisco [Carlos Valdes] onto Supergirl or to bring [Supergirl‘s] Winn [Jeremy Jordan] onto Legends [of Tomorrow]. First of all, we don’t even know if we could, legally. And quite frankly, just making the Arrow-verse which is what we call Legends, Flash and Arrow work and then making Supergirl work, it’s enough of a challenge without having to add a fourth player.”

There is a part of us that would be interested in theory in seeing this, but after spending the past week or so thinking about it we almost feel like it is better off if it doesn’t happen. The last thing that you want to do is upset the mythology of the current universe on “Arrow” and “The Flash,” and in these two shows you would have to think that they would have heard about someone like Superman, and would have a lot easier time suspending belief when crazy, unthinkable things started to occur.

We figure the best chance for something like this to happen would be either a brief cameo (not enough to be taken seriously), or some sort of reveal where we learn that the CW shows are actually set many years before Superman even starts to fight crime. This would create so many other confusing twists to the story that it may not be worth the time.

If nothing else, just rejoice right now in how successful the crossover between “Arrow” and “The Flash” this year ended up being.
