‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Reece Shearsmith joins for Mark Gatiss-penned episode

Doctor Who -We know that this has been said a few times now, but we do rather like the way in which “Doctor Who” chooses to announce some of their castings. They make it very official, and give you quotes from the guest stars to go along with all of the facts.

Today, the BBC has revealed that actor / writer / comedian Reece Shearsmith has signed up for a still-mysterious guest spot. Ironically the actor appeared in the docudrama “An Adventure in Space and Time,” so he already has some connections to the series. Here is what he had to say:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who, as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode – which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It’s a joy to play a part in the show – certainly a badge of honour.”

It is also nice to have some confirmation about Gatiss penning another episode of the series. Mark is Steven Moffat’s partner on “Sherlock,” and has also appeared in episodes of “Game of Thrones” as a certain representative of the Iron Bank. Here is what he has to say:

“I’m delighted to be writing again for Peter and Jenna’s brilliant TARDIS team and very excited about this particular story. It’s been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now! I’m also chuffed to bits to finally welcome my old friend Reece Shearsmith onto the show. He’s been badgering me for ten years!”

The new season (or series, if you are in the UK) will premiere on Saturday, September 19. We’ll hopefully have some further news soon.
