‘NCIS’ season 13 spoilers: Could Jon Cryer save Gibbs’ life?

NCIS -Talk about this for surprise casting. Fresh off of his role as Alan Harper for the past twelve years of “Two and a Half Men,” Jon Cryer is doing something decidedly different in appearing on at least three episodes of “NCIS” as a Navy surgeon named Dr. Taft. It’s a chance for him to dive into more drama, and as you can see in the photo at the bottom of this article (via Entertainment Weekly), he even looks completely different than he did on the CBS comedy.

Taft will be extremely important when it comes to resolving the big cliffhanger at the end of season 12, and that is determining whether or not Gibbs (Mark Harmon) survives getting shot. We’re pretty hopeful, given that if Gibbs was going to die, wouldn’t Cryer appear in just a single episode? Drawing out the guy’s fate over three episodes would just seem cruel.

In explaining how this part came around, Cryer told the aforementioned publication that really everything came about in the blink of an eye:

“This role came up so fast. I got a call while I was on the train to Comic-Con in San Diego this year, and within a week I was shooting. So I didn’t have much time to prepare. I spent a day working with a surgeon who they ended up hiring to actually assist me during the scene. In fact everyone at the operating table with me in the scene was a trained medical professional. So it was only me, the guy who was supposed to be the badass doctor, who didn’t know what he was doing. I kept thinking ‘I played a chiropractor for 12 years, that’s gotta count for something!'”

New episodes of the series are going to start on September 22, so really it is just a month and a half before you get to figure out just what Gibbs’ fate truly is.
