‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 finale spoilers: What ‘Mother’s Mercy’ means to Stannis, Melisandre

Stannis -We absolutely love the “Game of Thrones” finale title of “Mother’s Mercy,” and there is one very simple reason for that: Ambiguity. There are so many different wonderful ways in which it can be read!

For example, could this be about Cersei finding some sort of mercy for her past transgressions, and what about Dany as a Mother of Dragons? You also have Lady Olenna as the grandmother of Margaery, and then there is Stannis’ wife Selyse. If anyone is out there who needs some sympathy right now, it is this woman after what happened to her daughter Shireen on this past episode. That scene may continue to haunt us, and we know as a viewer that it was not even real! Seriously, that may be the most messed-up sequence that we’ve seen in the history of the show.

This photo shows Stannis with the Red Woman Melisandre, and at least one of them seems to be hurt about what happened. Melisandre shows really little sympathy, other than maybe of the “I’m going to pretend to be sad for your sake” variety. There’s nothing in her face that reads “authentic sorrow” to us. She believes firmly that everything that is being done is all a component to a much larger plan.

By the time this episode airs, maybe we will then have some firm answers about just who is the “mother” being referenced. We’ve certainly heard quite a few theories all about it at this point…
