NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Sawyer Fredericks, Meghan Linsey, India Carney try to rock top 5 show

Voice -We are near the end of “The Voice,” and for the remaining contestants, they are looking at this as a chance to blow us away. We found out so much more about them than ever before, mostly because of their hometown visits. Most of the rest of the show was spent getting reminders as to why these singers are all so good. While there are favorites, we are not going to be upset with anyone advancing at this point. There’s nobody in here still around just because of America making bad decisions when it comes to the voting.

At the end of the night, we’re going to also be sharing a poll; that way, you can also tell us some of what you think about these performances!

Sawyer Fredericks

“A Thousand Years” – Is Sawyer doing too many slower ballads? Maybe. This closed the show, and it was every bit perfect for him emotionally. Of course, we don’t think that we need to stress that the show wants him to win. If you average out the past few live shows, he’s gotten on average better placement than anyone.

“For What It’s Worth” – It’s a powerful, interesting song that has relevant lyrics. This made for a very strong performance, and probably also one that is going to get him even more votes. The more we see him perform, the more we feel like he is firmly in the driver’s seat.

India Carney

“Earth Song” -Did India pull this off? She did at times, but this song is just so difficult to do in a compressed period of time! We would prefer something that focused more on her voice and was simpler, sort of like her “Gravity.”

“Gravity” – Lovely. India hit the notes she needed to hit, but most importantly, we don’t think that she overdid anything. That is the real temptation with this song above all else.

Joshua Davis

“When I Paint My Masterpiece” – This is definitely an old-school folk song, and Joshua may be going for some of these classic rock votes more than anything modern. We’re worried about how long he’s going to fare with most young people not knowing it.

“I Can’t Make You Love Me” – This was actually the first song of the night, and for the most part, it was soulful and touching. Still, performing early is not going in Joshua’s favor.

Meghan Linsey

“I’m Not the Only One” – Meghan is trying to branch out, and while we commend her for it, this arrangement just did not work for her. It sounded far too dated for a song that is technically still new.

“Tennessee Whisky” – Hey, this is the country choice. It’s emotional, raspy, and pretty darn great to listen to. We just wonder about whether or not all of the country cameos in her package is a good thing or not. It’s impressive she knows so many people, but it may create the impression she doesn’t need to win as much.

Koryn Hawthorne

“Oh Mary Don’t You Weep” – Given that this is a very old spiritual, we had no clue how it was going to work or sound. Her voice in it was killer. The problem? It was not that melodically pleasant, so we’re not entirely sure what sort of downloads she will be getting on it.

“One” – We don’t love the song choice; instead, this was really a case of Koryn making the best of something that was a song with a low ceiling for her.
