NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: iTunes favors Cole Vosbury, Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin
Do we have our final five on “The Voice” more or less set in stone right now? We don’t quite know that we are able to say that just yet, mostly because of that little twist known as the #VoiceSave coming into play.
But going into tonight’s show, it does appear that, barring some huge discrepancy with the actual votes coming in, we’re going to likely see Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin, Jacquie Lee, and Cole Vosbury in the next round (and yes, there is only one artist being sent home tonight). What is notable particularly about this is that it will mean that for the first time, we’ll have two artists in the final five who were previously stolen at some point in the competition. (In Will’s case, he was stolen twice to end up back with Adam Levine.) Nobody is getting that coveted 5x multiplier courtesy of getting enough sales on iTunes to make it happen, but Tessanne is leading the way with her cover of “Redemption Song” hovering around #15.
But what could mess things up is if James Wolpert or Matthew Schuler manage to get a surge of online votes, and we get a situation where we have one of them competing for the #VoiceSave against Will. The reason that we say this in particular is because Will, unlike the other contestants on the show in danger, is from California. This impacts things greatly, since he’s going to have to rely on his local friends and family to keep track of social media versus actually watching the show live. James and Matthew are both from Pennsylvania, and are going to have plenty of people voting for them live. If it is down to these two, that’s going to be a race that is pretty difficult to call. We’ve found James’ song choices more interesting as of late, but Matthew may be saved somewhat from having that powerful version of “Hallelujah” that almost everyone remembers.
You can take a look at our full review from “The Voice” last night here, and we’ll have an in-depth look at the results soon enough.

If there’s one thing that’s clear about Season 5, it’s that the likely winner remains completely unclear. My imperfect power ranking system has Cole, Tessanne and Will in a tight race for the Top 3, with Jacquie at number four. James and Matthew are the most likely bottom two. The Instant Save will, of course, play a huge role this week and will, no doubt, make some fans real angry. The big question is whether a bottom two or a bottom three be subjected to the Tweet Sweeps. If it’s three, it’s possible that Jacquie, James and Matthew will all need saving. So, yes, I’d agree that Cole, Tessanne, Will and Jacquie should be in the next round (with someone else). But, getting there could be messy, at best.
